The picture to the left signifies an important point in our journey. Judy Massey (in black) and I, Jane Gomprecht (in pink) met at the Weimaraner Club of America's National Specialty in 1996. At the time, we both bred and exhibited Weimaraners (see page 4 for a more complete history). Over the years our friendship grew and eventually (about 4 years ago) we realized that we had a common dream. We both wanted to develop a First Class boarding, grooming and training facility in the southeast. We realized that we shared very similar ethics with regard to caring for dogs and dealing with people as well as a very similar vision of what our facility would be. We decided that we would move ahead with our plans and spent the next few years positioning ourselves for the moment reflected in the above photo. After viewing many existing kennels throughout the country, we decided that we would build our own. A HUGE undertaking-yes, we know! With research, we agreed upon the area in Georgia running along the I-75 corridor between Macon and Perry and ultimately discovered an absolutely lovely 40 acre tract of wooded land with rolling terrain, lake and brook. We were able to acquire Valentine Acres (named after Ch. Ghostmar's Funny Valentine, NRD, BROM-a very special weim that Judy & I co-owned) and closed on the property on 2/11/05 @ 3:00 PM. Then we headed for the property with Judy's husband, Leonard, two of our weims-Boo & Gia and a bottle of Korbel to celebrate. Our goal is to keep you posted, through photos and updates, on our progress . See Page 6 for photos taken on 2/11/05 after we closed on Valentine Acres.
We have begun working with Jack Catlin of Catlin Forestry, Toccoa, Georgia. He will coordinate and oversee the monumental task of logging appropriate pines while leaving the beautiful, old hardwoods intact. While we are waiting for the logging to be completed, Judy's husband Leonard is putting his talents to great use by designing the kennel and cabin plans. More later...
